i-Human Patients, Inc. Appoints Norm Wu as CEO

Experienced technology and health care CEO to help drive i-Human Patients worldwide growth

Mammoth Lakes, CA — December 1, 2012 – i-Human Patients, Inc. (IHP) today announced the appointment of Norm Wu as its chief executive officer. IHP is a developer and provider of simulation-based medical training services including their flagship i-Human Patients®. Mr. Wu was co-founder, chairman, president and CEO of Qliance Medical Management Inc. of Seattle, Washington, a venture-backed health care services management company that pioneered the affordable direct primary care model in which comprehensive, high access primary care drives system-wide health care cost savings of 20 to 30%.

Mr. Wu spent a decade with Bain and Company as a consultant, manager and vice president responsible for approximately half the firm’s global high technology business. He was co-founder, chairman, president & CEO of Avantos Performance Systems, Inc., a pioneer in software for management and organizational effectiveness and developer of the award winning ManagePro. Mr. Wu later served as senior vice president and chief strategy officer at the semiconductor company ZiLOG, as well general manager of two of its three divisions. As an investor and entrepreneur, Mr. Wu also helped to establish Alameda Capital LLC, LambdaFlex, Inc., and other early stage high technology companies. Mr. Wu earned both his BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering at Stanford University. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and awarded the F.E. Terman Engineering Scholastic Award. He received his MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business.

“Norm’s decades of experience as a business consultant and technology entrepreneur will be a key asset for us as we prepare to roll out the i-Human Patients service,” said Craig Knoche, co-founder and President of IHP. “Throughout his career, Norm has helped guide fast growing high technology companies and, more recently, transformative health care services. His experience will help us transition from the initial development of i-Human Patients to hosting and supporting the service worldwide.”

“Three major forces are driving the need to find innovative ways to support the training of physicians and other clinicians: the aging of the baby boomer generation, the major expansion of coverage in the U.S. under the Affordable Care Act, and the general per capita shortage of medical personnel in developing countries caused by the traditional, hard-to-scale apprenticeship model of training. i-Human Patients helps accelerate the training of highly qualified medical personnel by providing medical educators a programmable, comprehensive, online simulated patient service that students can practice on whenever they want, from wherever they want,” said Norm Wu. “i-Human Patients gives students at all levels an extraordinarily rich and unique learning experience that helps rapidly develop their patient assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills, and better prepares them for working with real patients.”

i-Human Patients is a cloud-based software-as-a-service that improves proficiency in patient assessment and diagnostic reasoning. Its interactive simulated patients provide a clinical context for learning the basic sciences, including physiology, anatomy, histology, pathology, and pathophysiology. Students can access the service’s rich graphically based content via the Internet. i-Human Patients utilizes a patent pending competency “engine” to provide comprehensive feedback to students at every step in their learning process. Individual student and aggregated class analytics are available to instructors, thereby improving instructor productivity. i-Human Patients contains a point-and-click authoring system to create new cases and exercises, which can be “published” under the Creative Commons Licensing model, thereby enabling crowd-sourced creation and sharing of educational media.
